TYPES OF HAIRPIECE
Ready made or stock hairpieces are usually cheaper and are mass produced to a specific pattern. The typical “NHS” wig falls into this category, though much better quality pieces are available. Ready made wigs can be bought for many purposes including occasional, party/fancy dress wigs, or transvestites. For transvestites I recommend a custom made wig for a more natural finish.
Custom made pieces are designed specifically to meet the customer’s need. The piece is made to match the exact shape, colour, curl, length etc. Such pieces can be almost impossible to detect. custom made full head wigs are also available
Human hair is beautifully soft and shiny to start with, but will start to fade quite quickly, especially if exposed to sunlight or worn whilst swimming. “Shedding” of hair from the base is quite common. Human hairpieces and wigs should really be replaced approximately 2 to 3 times a year.
The most popular hair is fibre. Fibre pieces keep their style, suffer from little or no fading, are better for swimming and are surprisingly light and comfortable.
